HOW WE TREAT
Science, Movement, Precision.
Manually (hands-on) directed force to restore normal joint accessory mobility, and connective tissue and muscle physiologic movement. Manual therapy promotes quicker healing time by providing the musculoskeletal system the opportunity for optimum movement.
Movement is everything! You can have the strongest muscles in isolation, but if you don’t know how to efficiently use them we cannot optimize movement. We will teach you everything you need to know to maintain and manage your movement, utilizing the greatest tool we have – your own body. With the assistance of fairly simple patterns and resistance, we can assist with optimizing our body mechanics to restore functional, precise movement.
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING:
In combination with restoring mobility and optimizing movement patterns, strength, power, and conditioning is needed to maintain and promote optimal movement. Just because we demand out body to carry a certain load, does not mean we have the capacity to fo it just yet. We must train our body to a specific capacity in order to progress the loads and/or activities we may demand of ourselves.
Commonly used with specific tools or various instruments to improve blood flow, break up scar tissue, and speed the healing process. However, the greatest gains are seen by affecting the nervous system to improve body control, posturing, movement, and gait. With the use of various bands, joint mobilization may also be improved with assistance. These assisted techniques allow independent carryover for prolonged benefits.
Samantha Cardeno PT, DPT
Dr. Cardeno graduated from Azusa Pacific University with her doctorate in physical therapy in 2013. Prior to her graduate studies, she played 4 years of collegiate basketball and 1 year of collegiate track and field while earning her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology Pre-Physical Therapy. Her first two years of college were completed at Mt. San Antonio college where she won back to back state championships, earned 1st team all conference, various all tournament teams, and is amongst the top 3-point shooters to have played for the program. The following 2 years were completed at Fresno Pacific University. From years of competing and training at a higher level, she learned the importance of pre-Hab and the necessity of good rehab after sustaining an injury. Personal injuries in high school and college have been key tools in understanding patient mentality during the rehabilitation process.
Her experience is primarily in outpatient orthopedics treating sports related injuries, post-op, and everyday aches and pains. She also has been coaching at a local high school for the past ten years which allows her to implement pre-Hab/injury prevention programs directly into practice. One of her greatest goals of being a PT is to get patients back to their greatest quality of life while providing tools and knowledge to be able to sustain and progress personal health. She is currently pursuing her specialty certification in orthopedics.
Joan “J.R.” Hermosura, PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, FAAOMPT
Dr. Hermosura was born and raised in Southern California. She received her Bachelors degree in Kinesiology from Arizona State University in 2008 and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Azusa Pacific University in 2013. Since graduating, Dr. Hermosura continued on for advanced training completing the Kaiser Permanente Orthopedic Residency in 2016 and Kaiser Permanente Manual Orthopedic Fellowship in Sports in 2017.
She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and has earned dual board-certifications as an Orthopedic Certified Specialist and Sports Certified Specialist. Currently she is enrolled at Loma Linda University pursuing her PhD in physical therapy with an emphasis in pain science.
Dr. Hermosura’s training, including Movement Links certification, allows her to perform an efficient evaluation to analyze movement to treat a variety of musculoskeletal disorders and to prevent and maintain current mobility. Her career mission includes becoming a more efficient and deliberate clinician, confident in her specialty to be a reliable resource, and grow with her profession for herself and ultimately those she treats.
On her free time, she assists coaching girl’s basketball for a local high school and enjoys spending time outdoors in the sun, playing sports, and being with friends and family.
Erin Bond, DPT
Dr. Bond graduated from Azusa Pacific University with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2013. Prior to graduate school, she played 4 years of collegiate softball while earning her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Science from Azusa Pacific University. During her last two years of college at Azusa Pacific University, Dr. Bond earned 1st team all conference. As a former athlete, she understands the importance of a good training program to help prevent injury as well as having a good rehabilitation process following an injury. Competing at a higher level has also helped her have more empathy for patients and what they are going through during the rehabilitation process and how important returning to their prior level of function is.
Dr. Bond’s experience has ranged from outpatient orthopedics treating sports related injuries, post-op, and general aches and pains to pediatrics. Her goals as a physical therapist is helping patients return to their prior quality of life and help them prevent injury in the future.
In her free time she spends time with her husband of 10 years and her three young boys. She enjoys being outside and playing sports with her family and friends.
